I chose one Native American tribe from mom's side and one from dad's. Feathers that meant strength and freedom and I made a piece of jewelry. Each tribe uses jewelry and I chose the representation of thoughts, prayers and choices. The turquoise represents protection and keeps us in positive thought. I did a lot of research on this piece. Utilizing the Choctaw from my mother's side and the Navajo from my dad, these particular feathers have specific meaning and symbolism. They are a reminder of behaviors in the tribes. I've been told by some of my elders we still have family on a few reservations.
Loveland, Colorado's well known musician, vocalist, actress, and vocal coach is again showcasing her unique art creations. Being a performer who has always reached for quality and her own style, Mary is applying her same ethic to her art. Mary's father was an artist and musician who instilled in her to do the best in all her endeavors. "I'm not stopping everything else", Zimmerman says, "I'm adding to the list". Specializing in just one style has never been Mary's forte. Diversity however, has. Her art encompasses watercolor, charcoal drawings, scherenschnitte, folk art, mixed media, abstract, landscapes, photography, contemporary and eclectic pieces.
